Description

Join us for Booze and Books, the most laid-back book club in town—no reading required! In partnership with local restaurant Black Rooster Bistro, we bring together authors, fun conversations, and a themed cocktail crafted just for the event. Whether you're here to learn, share, or simply enjoy the atmosphere, it's the perfect evening out for book lovers and cocktail enthusiasts alike.

For our last event of 2025 we are bringing back Mary Logue and her partner Pete Hautman to discuss their middle grade novels, both releasing on 10/29/25.

Mary Logue's Dreki: My Icelandic Dragon is a beautiful middle-grade novel that perfectly illuminates the relationship between grandparent and grandchild. A gentle introduction to grief, loss, and the looming responsibilities of becoming a young adult. Plus, it has dragons, elfs, and a tour of life in Iceland -- what more could a reader ask for. Highly recommend for all ages.

Pete Hautman's Answers to Dog is a heartfelt coming-of-age multiple point-of-view middle grade novel where half the story is told from the dog's perspective. Hautman's affinity and sense of place and love for the Minnesota landscape shines through every page. This book is a perfect read for boys, parents, and lovers of dogs.

New York Times-bestselling author Mary Logue has published more than thirty books, including mystery novels, poetry, nonfiction, and many books for children. Her awards include a Minnesota Book Award, a Wisconsin Outstanding Achievement Award, and an Edgar nomination. The first Brigid Reardon novel, The Streel, was a WILLA Literary Award finalist. She lives on the Mississippi with writer Pete Hautman.

Pete Hautman is the author of many books for young adults, including the National Book Award winner Godless, the Klaatu Diskos trilogy, and Eden West. His middle-grade novels include The Rat Queen, Otherwood, winner of an Edgar Award, and Slider, which Booklist lauded for its “crystalline prose, delectable detail, rip-roaring humor, and larger-than-life characters.” Pete Hautman divides his time between Wisconsin and Minnesota.
